Why two? The offseason acquisition, Fried, currently has a 17-5 win-loss record. He has a WAR of 3.6, ERA of 3.03, and leads the league in wins.

The left-hander has recorded 181.1 innings of work, allowing only 14 home runs and 61 earned runs on 157 hits. Fried’s presence on the mound for the Yankees gives the team the best chance to win.

He brings quality and competitiveness as well as depth, with a healthy offering of innings. Fried’s run prevention and consistency easily has him being the most trusted arm on the staff.

Collectively, Fried’s numbers against both the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox are quite impressive. The Yankees will play an AL East team regardless of how they make the postseason.

Gil Will Play Huge Rotational Role in the Postseason

Luis Gil is slowly getting back to what he was as a starting pitcher. Returning late this season from injury, Gil only has eight starts. He does hold a .800 win-loss percentage, going 4-1 so far in his compressed season.

The reigning Rookie of the Year is showing the league why he had that title last year. Gil is a solid option.

Gil has also dominated AL East competition, with workable numbers against the Blue Jays and Red Sox.
