However, Donaldson did not play a game for the organization as he, along with pitcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gallase01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sean Gallagher<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and left fielders <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/murtoma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Murton<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/patteer01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eric Patterson<\/a><\/strong>, were traded to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/oakland-athletics\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oakland Athletics<\/a>. In exchange, the Cubs acquired pitchers <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gaudich01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chad Gaudin<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harderi01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rich Harden<\/a><\/strong>. Donaldson would have to wait three years for his debut in MLB.<\/p>\n<p>In his rookie year, despite only playing 14 games, Donaldson batted .156, with one home run and four RBI. Donaldson played the 2011 season on the Athletics Triple-A team, the Sacramento River Cats.<\/p>\n<p>The season after, Donaldson would convert from catcher to third baseman. During that season, Donaldson hit .241, with nine home runs and 33 RBI. In 2013, Donaldson finished fourth in MVP voting. Then, in 2014, Donaldson was named to his first All-Star Game and finished eighth in MVP voting. During the 2014 offseason, Donaldson would be traded again, this time to the Blue Jays. In exchange, the Athletics acquired pitchers <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/n\/nolinse01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sean Nolin<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/graveke01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kendall Graveman<\/a><\/strong>, third baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lawribr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brett Lawrie<\/a><\/strong>, and shortstop <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/barrefr02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Franklin Barreto<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In his first year in Toronto, Donaldson won the MVP Award, was named to another All-Star game, and won a Silver Slugger. Over the course of his career, Donaldson has won an MVP, two Silver Slugger Awards, and been named to two All-Star games.
