He hit .255/.309/.382 with 12 home runs and 61 RBI in 162 games. Galvis has an average defensive rating (0.3 WAR), which kept him at just 1.3 WAR for the season. A better gauge of Galvis’s defense is his range factor. His RF/9 at shortstop last season was a modest 4.17, which makes him a reliable defensive option. Although Galvis posted a .250 average, he did manage to collect 150 hits this season, which is the most he’s had so far in his career. A .309 OBP isn’t too exciting, but Galvis collected 45 walks last season which is also a career high for him, and he’s averaged 33 walks the last three seasons. In the last three seasons, Galvis has averaged 13 walks.

Galvis has spent five seasons in the majors, all five of them with Philadelphia. He has hit .246/.287/.372 in his career with 52 home runs, 233 RBI, and 43 Stolen Bases.

A native of the Venezuela, Galvis, was acquired by the Phillies in 2012 and made his debut in April of 2012 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He went hitless in four at-bats,

Enyel De Los Santos

As for the pitching prospect that the Phillies will be getting back, De La Santos finished last season in Double-A with the Padres farm system. The 21-year-old threw 150 innings, posting a 3.78 ERA. De La Santos finished 2017 with 131 strikeouts and posted a high K/9 of 8.3 over a 2.9 BB/9. He posted a good 1.19 WHIP.

For Philadelphia, the Phillies get a durable pitching prospect, who is able to record a high number of strikeouts, and able to eat up innings. If the Padres decide to put Galvis at short, they’ll be getting an upgrade over Erick Aybar. Galvis is younger and is a slightly better bat at short.

Main Photo
Embed from Getty Images

According to reports, Philadelphia Phillies infielder Freddy Galvis was traded to the San Diego Padres Friday morning.
