Still, his first season with the club has been one to forget. He started the season on the IL after suffering a lat strain in spring training and would not debut until June 24th. If Montas undergoes Tommy John, he will miss the entirety of the 2026 season as well, marking the end of his contract with New York.<\/p>\n<p>The Mets, who currently sit just outside of a Wild Card spot with a 68-60 record, have been one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2025\/08\/09\/mets-hot-start-hard-fall-struggles\/\" target=\"_self\">worst teams in baseball<\/a> since the middle of June. The club&#8217;s offense has been at the center of its struggles, while its starting pitching has tried its hardest to keep the team afloat.
