Arguably the subject of more trade deadline buzz than any other player, Suárez returns to the Emerald City, where he played for two seasons from 2022 to 2023. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that first baseman Tyler Locklear and right-handers Hunter Cranton and Juan Burgos will head to Arizona in exchange, and there are still further details to sort out. He became the hottest commodity as the deadline crept closer, with several teams linked in recent weeks to MLB’s RBI leader (87). However, the move makes sense for Seattle. They currently sit five games behind the Houston Astros in the American League West, but are tied for the last AL Wild Card spot (and second place in the West) with the Texas Rangers. Adding a slugger like Suárez will prime the M’s to make a run for the postseason, hoping to get there for the first time since 2022.

Suárez arrived in Seattle one year after that and was a steady power source at the plate. In both years there, he had solid home run/RBI totals (31/87 and 22/96, respectively). However, he led the AL in strikeouts both years (196, 214). This is always a concern with the two-time All-Star, but with 36 homers and a .896 OPS this year, it’s a trade-off most teams would accept. The 34-year-old Suárez becomes a free agent after this season, as the original seven-year deal he signed with the Reds expires after 2025.

Main Photo Credit: Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Eugenio Suárez is off the board, with the Arizona Diamondbacks trading him to the Seattle Mariners, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
