According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, New York is eyeing right-handed reliever Ryan Helsley of the St. Louis Cardinals. Last season’s league-leader in saves currently boasts a 3.00 ERA to go with 41 strikeouts and 21 saves.

Report: Yankees Interested In Cardinals’ Reliever Ryan Helsley

Ryan Helsley is one of the most popular trade targets with no less than a half-dozen teams interested to varying degrees. Among the suitors, per sources, are the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Phillies, Rangers and Blue Jays.

— Mark Feinsand (@Feinsand) July 29, 2025

The Yankees aren’t the only team that is pursuing Helsley’s services, though. According to Feinsand, the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Texas Rangers are all in the mix to acquire the two-time All-Star. This means that the price for Helsley won’t be cheap; and with the Yankees already having dealt quite a few prospects, they’ll have to really love him if they’re going to get him.

Though New York has been linked to dozens of relievers across the league, they’ve yet to pull the trigger on any of them. After acquiring Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies and Amed Rosario from the Washington Nationals, they have to focus on bulking up their bullpen before 6 pm on Thursday. It’s been their Achilles heel over the past month or two, and if they want any shot at catching the first-place Blue Jays, they’ll need more reliable arms out of the ‘pen.

With Fernando Cruz and Mark Leiter Jr out for significant chunks of time, New York can’t rely on their bullpen improving via internal options. They need at least one or two more pitchers to support Devin Williams, who has finally found his form as one of the league’s top closers. If Helsley joins Williams as a setup man, the Yankees will be one step closer to contending come October.

Main Photo Credits: Jeff Curry-Imagn Images

With their bullpen almost depleted thanks to injuries, the New York Yankees are actively on the hunt for relief pitchers this trade deadline.
