The St. Louis Cardinals<\/a> are beginning to address their future in the bullpen. St. Louis has signed 33 year-old veteran Luke Gregerson<\/a> to a two-year deal worth $11 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Luke Gregerson Signs with the St. Louis Cardinals<\/h1>\n

The 2017 World Series Champion<\/a> posted a 4.57 ERA in 61 innings-pitched over 65 appearances and striking out 70 in 2017. It was the first time having a 4+ ERA for the former Houston Astros<\/a> set-up man. Over his nine-year career, the big right-hander has played for the San Diego Padres<\/a>, Oakland Athletics<\/a> and most recently the Astros. Gregerson has posted a 3.02 ERA for his career proving the upside has been there.<\/p>\n

The St. Louis Cardinals were actually the team to draft Gregerson in the 28th round of the 2006 MLB Draft out of St. Xavier University in Chicago. Luke played for the\u00a0Johnson City Cardinals\u00a0and the Short-Season\u00a0State College Spikes\u00a0throughout the 2006 baseball year. He was later traded to the San Diego Padres<\/a> and worked his way through the system there becoming an elite set-up option by 2009.<\/p>\n

As the Cardinals are likely to lose key pieces in Trevor Rosenthal<\/a>, due to injury and release, and Seung-hwan Oh<\/a>, now a free agent, the addition of Luke Gregerson will be a staple for the club heading down the stretch of key ball games in 2018. St. Louis was 83-79 in 2017 missing the playoffs by four games but were clearly in the hunt.<\/p>\n

The recent suitors for star Giancarlo Stanton<\/a>, who went on to rule out St. Louis as a new home and signed with<\/a> the New York Yankees<\/a>, will likely look to add other sources of offense throughout their line up.<\/p>\n
