Retroactive to July 1st, the Cubs are placing starting pitcher Jameson Taillon on the 15-day IL and recalling Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa. As reported by Patrick Mooney of The Athletic, Taillon strained his right calf.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cubs are placing Jameson Taillon on the injured list with a strained right calf and recalling Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa.<\/p>\n

Craig Counsell reported that Jameson Taillon’s injury was “just an unfortunate injury during training.” Counsel also said, “He’s gonna miss a pretty significant amount of time.” This is a very tough situation for the Cubs, as they had some of the worst starting pitching in MLB in the month of June. They recently got Shota Imanaga back<\/a>, but losing Taillon is a big blow to an already struggling pitching staff. Jordan Wicks has only pitched in 2 innings for the Cubs this year and has given up 3 earned runs. In 2024, he started ten games and conjured a 5.48 ERA. So, he is clearly not an ideal option for a replacement. This year, Taillon has been a solid three or four guy for the Cubs, and his injury is sure to ramp up trade talks.<\/p>\n

The Cubs front office should go all in on this team, and that includes more starting pitching. They have been connected to many teams, but now with Taillon’s injury, it creates even more of a need for pitching. There have been rumors about trading<\/a> for Mitch Keller, Merrill Kelly, Sandy Alcantara, Joe Ryan, and more. Now that the Cubs took another hit to an already struggling rotation, a deal for one of these guys could possibly come within the next week or two.
