Because of this, for their future, they needed to look at their farm system for their next top talent. Of their top 10 prospects, four of them were outfielders, all of whom were under 22 years old. Among them was Jett Williams, a recent first-round draft pick by the Mets straight out of high school.

Mets Prospect Jett Williams Could Complete Outfield Puzzle in Future

Running Through the Minor Leagues

After the Mets drafted Williams 14th overall in 2022, he reported to the Florida Complex League to begin his pro career. In 10 games there, he slashed .250/.366/.438 with three extra-base hits. In addition to that, he only struck out six times while walking four times and stealing six bases. Williams then started 2023 with the Low-A St. Lucie Mets, where his success continued. Williams managed to climb up to Double-A by the end of the year as he hit .263 with an .876 OPS in 121 games. In those games, he managed to steal 45 bases in addition to walking 104 times, a rate that would be best in the majors. Expectations for Williams were high coming into the 2024 season, but in mid-April, he began to feel wrist discomfort. It would not be until June that he would undergo wrist surgery, effectively ending his season.

Starting the 2025 season with the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Jett Williams was ready to make his mark. He has done just that so far, as in 58 games he is slashing .298/.402/.519 with five triples and six home runs. With that, he has also walked 34 times and has managed to steal 19 bases along the way. This has solidified the 21-year-old prospect as a top-of-the-order hitter with both elite discipline and elite speed.

Jett Williams (@Mets No. 1 prospect) leads off the game with a triple 🔥@MLBPipeline‘s No. 48 overall prospect now has a .302 AVG and .943 OPS this season.

In June: .381 AVG, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 11 R, 5 2B, 3 3B, 10 XBH

🎠 x #NeedForSteed x @jettwilliams04 pic.twitter.com/SELx885pTf

— Binghamton Rumble Ponies (@RumblePoniesBB) June 15, 2025

Jett Williams’ Future as a Met

Currently, the Mets’ outfield combination of Brandon Nimmo, Tyrone Taylor, and Juan Soto ranks as one of the best in the game. These three have an average OPS+ of 114, with Soto leading the group at 143 despite a slow start. Because of this, it may take Jett Williams longer to make it to the top. However, if he continues to produce at the level he is right now, the Mets may have an interesting decision on their hands. Williams should make it to Triple-A by the All-Star Break, which opens up possibilities. Either way, as long as he stays healthy, he should be on the Mets’ Opening Day roster come 2026 and pair next to Juan Soto for the foreseeable future.

Photo Credit: © Sam Navarro-Imagn Images

Following a historic offseason in which the New York Mets signed Juan Soto to an MLB-record 15-year, $765 million contract, they then looked to what they already had on their roster.
