Swarzak would spend the 2010 season in the minors after breaking his foot, struggling that year with a 6.21 ERA. Swarzak would play for the Twins for five years, pitching a 4.48 ERA with 267 strikeouts. During the 2014 season, Swarzak was outrighted from the 40-man roster and elected free agency. He would then sign a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians but was released in May. After his release, Swarzak would go to play overseas and pitch for the Doosan Bears of the Korea Baseball Organization. During the 2016 off-season, Swarzak signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees and was promoted in June to the majors.

After one year with New York, Swarzak signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox in January. On July 25th, Swarzak was traded from the White Sox to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for outfielder Ryan Cordell. Swarzak, in his total career so far, has pitched a 4.22 ERA with 402 strikeouts in 561.1 innings pitched.

Impact of the Signing

For the Mets, they get a reliable reliever who has had a bumpy first start but has been able to turn his career around after spending some time overseas. For the Brewers, they lose a reliever who has been able to thrive under their system. Swarzak has started to build his track record in MLB again, and it finally has paid off with this new contract. It now solidifies his place as a major league reliever. Look for his name to come back into the majors very soon.

Main Photo
Embed from Getty Images

Anthony Swarzak, the experienced reliever, once again will be on the move as it was reported that he has reached a deal with the New York Mets for two years at $14 million.
