Texas Rangers Edge Rockies, 4-3

ARLINGTON, Texas, August 30 – As everyone was hoping, the Texas Rangers built on Sunday’s win against the Houston Astros. On Monday, they started a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies. In front of 14,990 fans, a noticeably smaller crowd than the previous game, the Rangers beat Colorado. The final score was 4-3.  Here is a recap of the series opener between these two ball clubs.

Three of a Kind

All four runs that were scored on Monday came from three different players. They came to gather to hit three home runs, and it started in the fourth inning, no less. DJ Peters started the party in the bottom of the fourth. His solo shot was to left field off of Rockies’ starter German Marquez. As a matter of fact, Marquez gave up all three shots. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Leody Taveras snapped an 0-for-31 slump with his home run. Then it was Nick Solak’s turn. He hit a two-run moonshot to right-center field in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 4-0.

The Homer Bunch

Here’s the story, of a man named…Story (admit it, you sang along for a moment). In the top of the seventh, Rockies’ shortstop Trevor Story joined in on the fun. Story hit his 17th and 18th home runs of the season on Monday. His first was to left field off of Texas righty Josh Sborz. He hit his second to right field off of Spencer Patton. Overall, five home runs were hit in this game. Fortunately, the Rangers were able to get the win thanks to the three that they hit.

Alexy’s Texas Rangers Debut

Monday night marked the Major League debut of 23-year old right-hander A.J. Alexy. The future certainly looks bright for Alexy. He was able to get his first major league win against Colorado. He tossed five scoreless innings. Also, he only gave up one hit, and walked three. He also struck out four.   He looked very impressive, and it will be exciting to see what lies ahead for him. The aforementioned Marquez took the loss. His record is now at 11-10. He went six innings, giving up all four runs. He struck out two, walked two, and surrendered three home runs. Joe Barlow got the save for Texas, his third of the year.

Middle Game

The second game of this three-game set will be on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM CDT. Colorado will be sending Austin Gomber to the mound, and Texas will counter with righty Jordan Lyles.
