The 2017 touchdown leader is back.
This week, the Sioux Falls Storm announced that they have signed former Iowa Hawkeye, Damond Powell, to help the team make a push towards the Indoor Football League (IFL) playoffs.
Former Iowa Hawkeye Damond Powell returns to IFL, signs with Sioux Falls Storm
Powell, 25, has not played anywhere since his one-year stint with the Cedar Rapids Titans last season.
In 2017, Powell tied Iowa’s Brady Roland for the league lead in touchdowns with 22 last season.
The addition means that Sioux Falls’ wide receiving corps will contain Mike Tatum, Judd Harrold, and Powell.
Tatum is currently second in the league in receiving averaging 56.1 yards per game, and was named the IFL’s Week 7 Player of the Week.
Harrold, on the other hand, is back on a homecoming tour to help the Storm chase a seventh title in the past eight seasons. He was also touted as an IFL Player of the Week, after his Week 3 performance.
Adding Powell to the mix will spice things up, a lot. Powell comes in as one of the best deep threats Iowa fans have seen in a decade.
In college, Powell averaged 19.6 yards per catch, according to sports-reference.com.
After his career at Iowa, Powell spent time with the Arizona Cardinals for two seasons before joining his college teammate, Marvin McNutt, at Cedar Rapids. There, he averaged 65.8 yards per game which was second in the IFL.
Sioux Falls’ next game will be on Friday against the Green Bay Blizzard (2-9), and will kick off at 7:05 p.m.
Although, the Storm will play a bigger game against the Iowa Barnstormers at home in two weeks that could decide which team will get the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. That game, on Friday, June 8 will kick off at 7:05 p.m. as well and will also be live-streamed on YouTube.
