Fantasy Profile: Ameer Abdullah, RB, Detroit Lions

Ameer Abullah was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Abdullah has blazing speed and quick feet while still having enough size to take the beating that NFL running backs need to endure throughout a season. He was drafted because Detroit’s running game has been in the bottom tier of the NFL since the sudden retirement of the great Barry Sanders so many years ago. Abdullah was drafted to change that trend for the future of the team. That future should start very soon in Detroit.

Joique Bell is a quality back that will take the majority of the carries due to his experience in the NFL but Bell’s straight ahead running style limits his abilities to break off the big plays. Theo Riddick is a pass catching specialist that will have his own role in the offense and will not threaten Abdullah’s touches. Abdullah is the most talented running back in Detroit this year and will likely end the season with the starting job. As of now Bell is still the guy and the hype should be tempered on Abdullah accordingly. Look for Abdullah in round seven or eight for a high upside player with minimal risk at that price.
