Muschamp was never able to come close to the standard set by Steve Spurrier and surpassed by Urban Meyer; going 27-20 overall and 17-15 in the SEC. By far, Muschamp’s best team was the 2012 edition. Suffocating defense led that team to 11 wins and a Top Five regular season ranking. Yet even in the midst of such success, Gator fans typically remember 2012 for a six turnover debacle versus arch rival Georgia that cost Florida an SEC Title game berth and a shot at the national title as well as a stunning upset loss to 13-point underdog Louisville in the Sugar Bowl.
