San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith has pleaded no contest to three felony charges related to a 2012 incident during a house party at his San Jose, California mansion. Smith also pleaded no contest to 3 misdemeanor DUI charges related to a September 2013 arrest.

It will be up to the judge to sentence him. “It’s from zero days to four years and four months,” prosecutor Brian Buckelew said.

But Buckelew said, “There is an acceptance of responsibility here that is factored in by the sentencing judge.” So, provided he keeps…

…his nose clean between now and July 25th sentencing, he will get a lighter sentence than if he lost at trial.

There will also likely be a suspenion coming for Aldon Smith from the NFL head office. Smith violated the league’s substance-abuse policy with the DUI. The no contest plea to the weapons-related charges also constitutes a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy and Roger Goodell has been known to be strict on these types of offences.
Aldon Smith missed a total of five games in 2013 after entering rehab following his Sept. 20 DUI arrest.
Smith could still face more charges following an April arrest at LAX airport.
