Earlier in spring training the Los Angeles Angels gave Mike Trout a one-year deal that was the biggest ever for a player who was not yet eligible for arbitration. Today, they signed Mike Trout to a six-year extension that locks him up for all three of his arbitration eligible seasons, plus three years of free agency. The deal is reportedly worth at least $144.5 million.

Trout has been nothing short of remarkable in his first two years in the majors:
In 2012, Trout was called up one month into the season. He hit .326/.399/.564 with 30 home runs, 49 stolen bases, 83 RBIs, 120 runs and posted a WAR of 10.0. He won the American League rookie of the year and was the runner up for AL MVP.
In 2013 he hit .323/.432/.557 with 27 home runs, 33 stolen bases, 97 RBIs, 109 runs scored and posted a WAR of 10.4. He again finished second in AL MVP voting, losing to Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers for the second year in a row.
Trout’s deal includes a full no trade clause, and does not have any option years attached. It does however include a guarantee that he will be the highest paid player in the majors with his service time in every year of the deal, so it could potentially be worth even more.
Trout will be 29-years-old when it expires and ready for his next mega-deal assuming all goes well over the next six years. Considering how well he’s started his major league career, it would seem that injury is the only thing that could potentially slow him down as he enters his prime over the next several years.
