Athleticism: B-
Has very good playing speed. Is able to stretch the field and streak down the seam, building speed as he goes. A strider who gets to a very good top-end speed for a TE. Yardage per reception accurately indicates his playmaking ability. Not particularly strong or creative after the catch.
Hands: B-
Excellent at catching the ball in stride and running while securing the catch. Did not see him have to extend for many passes due to the level of QB play, and catch radius might be a concern, however, not for certain. Not afraid to go up and come down with the catch, but was often wide open thrown to and did not have fear getting lit up over the middle.
Technique: C+
Is very quick to get off the line. Did not run a variety of routes in Fresno State’s spread offense. Seemed to get pinballed and got knocked while running a route at the beginning of the Cal Poly game (2013). Quick to gain separation in his routes. Has a lot of potential as a route runner.
Blocking: C-
Shows potential as a blocker, but is more of a receiver at this point. Played against inferior competition in the Mountain West and did not dominate like a player his size would be expected to. Agile enough to redirect, hit squarely while on the move and sustain in the secondary. Needs to get stronger in the upper body and improve his anchor. Needs plenty of technique work. Blocking clearly was not a priority to the coaching staff.
Intangibles: C+
Underutilized on a team with plenty of good receivers. Only a two year starter. Appeared disinterested at times. Is a special teams contributor. Is pushing on being overaged. A year older than his class.
Red Flags: Level of Competition
Bottom Line: Not to be confused with the footballer of a similar name, Jensen has the tools to be a very good TE. While he has a long way to go, Jensen has some stand out skills that catch the eye and will allow him to contribute early. Jensen should be expected to be a #2 starter in a dual-TE set, and would be a great fit for a vertical offense.
Comparison: Gavin Escobar
Grade: 7.5 (5th Round)
