Wade Barrett participated in a tryout with WWE in November 2006 after appearing as part of a security team on RAW but was not hired or brought up to the main roster of the WWE at that time. Barrett spent time in WWE development before going to win the first season of NXT in 2010 and made his Raw debut in June of that year. Barrett jumped WWE Superstar John Cena to close RAW, rising to prominence as the leader of the Nexus, a villainous stable composed of the former NXT contestants.
Barrett started his pro wrestling career at age 21 and is now 33 years old. He later started the Corre with former Nexus members, another Nexus style faction. Wade Barrett won his first Intercontinental championship in March 2011 as a member of the Corre. Barrett had two more reigns as Intercontinental champion in the WWE. Barrett also had a WWE Championship shot and feud with John Cena going into the fall in 2010 but at Survivor Series 2010 is where Wade Barrett got his WWE Title shot against “The Viper” Randy Orton. However, John Cena was the referee and pushed Barrett into a RKO, costing Wade the match.
Once the Corre ended, Wade Barrett was know as The Barrett Barrage and was getting a big push from WWE. In 2013 on a March episode of RAW, Barrett defeated Chris Jericho and The Miz in a three-way match to retain his Intercontinental championship. During the Wrestlemania 29 pre-show Wade Barrett faced The Miz in an Intercontinental re-match, pretty damn sad if you ask me that Barrett was not even on the main broadcast. I damn sure hope he still got a big WrestleMania payday from WWE. Wade Barrett has been one of my favorites and I have been a huge supporter of him and his wrestling style. He is a hell of a talent but if WWE is not careful in one or two year, Wade will be asking for his WWE release or will come out with a YouTube video saying how he is not re-signing with WWE like Ted Dibiase Jr. did. WWE dropped the ball with Ted Dibiase so I really feel hope they don’t drop the ball with Wade Barrett. The WWE Creative team allegedly says they have nothing for him. No-one wants to see Wade Barrett become a jobber. Many think and say Wade Barrrett had his shots to be a top star and show WWE he is a top star and failed. I don’t feel that way at all but some do. At WWE Money In The Bank in July, Barrett competed in the World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank ladder match and many thought he was the favorite to win the Money In The Bank match but was unsuccessful as the match was ultimately won by Damien Sandow. And since then we have not seen much of Barrett at all, just a few matches with Daniel Bryan, what I want is for Wade Barrett to be used on television each week and made and booked to not look like a weak midcard guy just jobbing to talent and becoming R-Truth or the Great Khali.
Wade Barrett deserves better, WWE.
