The New Orleans Saints were hit hard with injury news today losing wide receiver Joe Morgan and defensive end Kenyon Coleman to season ending injuries.
Morgan has a has a torn meniscus and a partially torn ACL, and will undergo surgery today to repair his knee. He was expected to be the Saints third wide receiver and play an important role in the offence.
It was supposed to be a step up for the 25 year old Morgan who had success in a limited role as primarily a deep threat last season. In his rookie season, Morgan had 379 yards receiving and three touchdowns on just ten receptions last year.
With Morgan out the Saints will turn to Nick Toon, Steve Breaston, and fifth-rounder Kenny Stills in a competition for the third wide receiver spot.
Coleman was lost to a torn Pectoral Muscle. He was expected to be a starter at defensive end as the Saints make the transition to Rob Ryan’s 3-4 defence.
The 34-year-old played under Ryan with the Dallas Cowboys last season. He was signed to bring continuity and experience to the Saints as they adjust to Ryan’s defence. He is known as primarily a run stopper on the line. It is expected that 2012 third round draft pick Akiem Hicks will replace Coleman in the starting lineup for the Saints.
