Astros Name Reid Ryan, son of Nolan Ryan, Team President

After Team President George Postolos announced his resignation on Monday, the Houston Astros began their search for his replacement.  That search has ended with the Astros reaching into their past (sort of) in naming his successor.

The Astros will name Reid Ryan as the new team president on Friday.  Reid is the son of former MLB pitching great, and current Texas Rangers President and CEO Nolan Ryan.  Nolan Ryan spent nine of his 27 MLB seasons pitching for the Astros.

Reid has been a “baseball lifer” and is currently the President of the AAA Round Rock Express (a Rangers affiliate) and the AA Corpus Christi Hooks (an Astros affiliate).  The two minor league clubs are owned by Nolan Ryan and his partner Houston businessman Don Sanders.

Reid Ryan, 41, has also been serving on the board of trustees for Major League Baseball, the executive committee of the Pacific Coast League and is the board of trustees representative for the Baseball Internet Rights Company (BIRC).

Reid Ryan attended TCU where he was a Pitcher for the Horned Frogs.  He was selected in the 1994 Draft by the Texas Rangers, and toiled in the minor leagues for several years, but never made it up to the big club.  After retiring from baseball he began his career as an executive in the game.
