OTPP 2016 NHL Trade Deadline Edition

Last Word on Sports is proud to present their hockey podcast, On the Powerplay with Ben and Dave. Join Ben Kerr and Dave Gove each week as they take a look around the Hockey World focusing on the big issues of the NHL and elsewhere.

In this episode Dave and Ben break down all the big moves of the 2016 NHL Trade Deadline.

In Chicago, the Blackhawks are “all-in” trading for Andrew Ladd, Christian Ehrhoff, Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann.  The boys look at what these players add to the Hawks and their chances of a fourth Stanley Cup in seven years.  They also look at what they have given up in the deals.

The Los Angeles Kings have responded by adding a pair of former hawks.  How can Kris Versteeg and Rob Scuderi help the Kings.  What would a Western Conference final between the Hawks and Kings look like?

The Florida Panthers also made a number of significant moves trading for Teddy Purcell, Jiri Hudler and Jakub Kindl.  Is this trio of veterans exactly what the Panthers need to improve.

The New York Rangers have moved more pics and prospects for Eric Staal.  The boys look at this move and how the Rangers are emptying the prospect and draft pick cupboard and going all in for the Cup in the next year or two.

On trade deadline day the Avalanche added Mikkel Boedker in the biggest move of the day.  What can he add to Colorado, and how does he fit into the Avs lineup?  Did the Coyotes get a good enough return for their scoring winger?

The Dallas Stars have addressed issues on their defence, getting Kris Russell from the Calgary Flames.  Can they compete with Chicago in the Central Division?  Do they have enough on defence?

The Boston Bruins were busy late in the day, adding John-Michael Liles and Lee Stempniak; while also choosing to keep Loui Eriksson.  How do they look for the playoffs?

The Boys also look at the Canucks failure to move Dan Hamhuis.  Dallas reportedly made a big offer, but the Canucks didn’t return their call.  What is going on with Jim Benning.

The Boys also look at the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames, and Edmonton Oilers.  Who did the best job of selling and accumulating picks?

What teams needed to make more moves and didn’t do enough on trade deadline day?

All this and more in the latest edition of On the Powerplay.
