Through the Airwaves: Re-living Iowa’s semi-final playoff Victory

Through the Airwaves

The Iowa Barnstormers are headed to the United Bowl championship game this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. CT

Thanks to some help from KXnO and Joe Stasi, voice of the Barnstormers, Last Word On Sports is bringing the fans a look through the airwaves at how the Barnstormers won their semi-final game to qualify for the championship.

Below are iconic, vintage-Stasi audio clips from the 48-17 win over Nebraska, paired with photos from LWOS’ own Connor Ferguson.

After a slow start to the night, the Barnstormers MVP-candidate quarterback Drew Powell high-stepped it into the end zone. It gave Iowa a two-possession lead and the team didn’t look back.

In the second half, Ryan Balentine caught his second touchdown pass of the game, which would give Iowa a 34-17 lead after the extra point.

After an interception by Rocky Hayes got the ball back into the Barnstormers’ hands, Jamal Tyler took a pitch and, ‘Put the nail in the coffin,’ with a touchdown.

After earning his third interception of the night, Hayes put the icing on the cake with a pick-six, giving the Barnstormers a 48-17 lead.

The last call from the game features Stasi’s countdown to the victory. Iowa took down Nebraska and started celebrating the good times.

This week, the Iowa Barnstormers and indoor football community mourn the passing of Barnstormers color commentator, Larry Cotlar. Cotlar passed away on Saturday night during a flash flood in the Des Moines area. For tickets to Saturday’s game, if a customer mentions KXnO, the Barnstormers will donate $5 of every $15 ticket to the Cotlar family. Please consider that and also donating to the gofundme account that has been set up.

Last Word On Sports and Connor Ferguson are bringing readers new Iowa Barnstormers’ content each and every day leading up to the 2018 United Bowl, which will be held at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, IA on Saturday, July 7.
