Popular Songs: Iowa Barnstormers

The Iowa Barnstormers are headed to the United Bowl, playing in their first championship game since 1997.

Similar to something that LWOS has done in the past, we are back with the popular series that takes a look back in time to the songs we were listening to.

Popular Songs: Iowa Barnstormers

In this case, the Barnstormers are back in a title game for the first time since they lost to the Arizona Rattlers in ’97.

That just happens to be the year that Barbie Girl rose to the top of the charts.

The Barnstormers started the year by splitting their first two games, however they bounced back and earned four straight victories to start 5-1 on the season.

In one of the top years for the Spice Girls, they came out with this timeless classic.

Iowa would lose two of its next three games, with both losses coming at home, dropping the team’s record to 6-3.

Meanwhile, Blackstreet came out with a song that is still played around college campuses to this day, 21 years later.

Next, the Barnstormers would start flying. With four of their final five games at home, the team ran the table. They finished the season with an 11-3, which is the same mark the 2018 team has set.

R Kelly released one of his hit songs all the way back in ’97, though it’s hard to believe.

Iowa would defeat San Jose and Orlando in the playoffs, to make its way to a second straight ArenaBowl.

The Macarena didn’t debut in 1997, but it was the year that this remix hit the Billboard Top 100 (It hasn’t gotten any better).

The Barnstormers were defeated in the ArenaBowl by the Arizona Rattlers 55-35. Although, the franchise has a chance at redemption when Sioux Falls comes to visit next week.

Last Word On Sports and Connor Ferguson are bring readers new Iowa Barnstormers’ content each and every day leading up to the 2018 United Bowl, which will be held at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, IA on Saturday, July 7.
