Richard Tieman and the F.A.N. Show comes to Des Moines, IA

Richard Tieman

It’s not on national TV, it’s not even on regular radio, though it deserves to be.

This week, when the Iowa Barnstormers open the season against the Arizona Rattlers, Des Moines, IA will be host to the premier game of the week show in Indoor Football.

Richard Tieman’s show started off as a podcast out of a spare room in his house in Spokane, Washington a few years ago. That’s where his interest in the Indoor Football League was born, as the Spokane Empire sat right in his back yard.

Tieman travels every other week to his determined “indoor game of the week,” creating what he calls the F.A.N. Show Tour.

“I want to go to these games, these particular matchups, because regardless of what their record is during the season, they were going to be good matchups either way,” Tieman said.

During the tour, Tieman puts on a pre-game show preferably near by the arena where he interacts with fans and continues to grow his show.

“[I wanted to] put on a pre-game show, give away some merchandise, have fun with the fans before and after, and cover the game while I’m there,” Tieman said.

Tieman’s show includes live player and fan interviews, different unique segments, and usually a prediction on who will come out as the winner at the end of the night.

It almost sounds like a College GameDay for indoor football.

“The ultimate goal is that I’d like it to be a college gameday-esque kind of thing,” Tieman said. “I’d love to fly out to where the game of the week on short notice, but because its on my dime, I have to plan these things months in advance.”

Tieman intends to grow his show, just like any journalist would, and made sure to note that this isn’t as big as it gets.

“[I’m] not far enough as far as what the ultimate goal is,” Tieman said. “I’ve met a lot of really amazing people. It’s been a great time, and I think each year that I do the tour, it’s going to get better and better.”

Tieman’s stop in Des Moines will start off at Buzzard Billy’s, a restaurant down the street from the arena, before heading indoors to Wells Fargo Arena.
