Who are the Greatest Point Guards of All-Time?

The NBA’s Greatest Point Guards of All-Time

One of the best traits of any point guard is being able to control a game without even having to score. These men are in it for the team. Their ethos is to pass and make sure the game flows so that others can score the points necessary for a win. It’s a position where to be good means to be able to dominate the court and make sure the ball gets to the right person, at the right time.

So, who are the best point guards to have graced the NBA with their presence over the years? Here are five of greatest ever men to have played in his position.

Magic Johnson

There is little doubt that Johnson is the best point guard to play in the NBA over the years. He literally was magical, with his exceptional vision, and ability to spot an open player. Johnson was an exceptional talent during a playing career which was unfortunately cut short by illness. During his time as a Los Angeles Lakers player he was three-time NVP, in the 1986-87, 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons. He was also a 10-time All-NBA selection. The team won the Championship in 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988, while Johnson was playing. His career stats make for impressive reading:

  • 19.5 PPG
  • 7.2 RPG
  • 11.2 APG
  • .520 FG%

Oscar Robertson

Robertson impressed with his skills at two teams, during his NBA career, Cincinnati Royals from 1960-70 and Milwaukee Bucks from 1970-74. He was known for his strength and speed; the forerunner of players like Magic Johnson. Robertson was voted MVP for 1963-64 season. He was also an 11-time All-NBA selection. In 1971 Robertson won the Championship with Milwaukee Bucks. Take a look at the career stats for this mountain of a man.

Stephen Curry

Current Golden State Warriors favourite Curry, has been impressing with his shooting ability since 2009. He was voted MVP for 2014-15 season and has been an All-NBA selection on two occasions. In 2015, Curry won the Championship with the Warriors. He is a player who is worth watching, if you are thinking of heading over to Coral betting and placing a wager on the NBA. Isiah Thomas

Thomas was known as a tough bad-boy in the league. He was also impressively quick with the ball. During his time with the Detroit Pistons, the team won the Championship on two occasions, in 1989 and 1990. Thomas was also Finals MVP; the shortest player ever to have received the accolade, at 5′ 9”. As with the other players on our list, Thomas’ stats make for impressive reading:

  • 19.2 PPG
  • 3.6 RPG
  • 9.3 APG
  • 1.9 SPG

Chris Paul

Another current player on our list is Chris Paul, the former New Orleans Hornets regular who now plays for Los Angeles Clippers. He is one of the best two-way point guards ever, orchestrating the defence with great skill, and scoring when the need arises. Paul is a seven-time All-NBA selection and was Rookie of the Year for 2005-06 season, but he is yet to be a Championship winner. Take a look at his stats so far:

  • 18.7 PPG
