Indoor Football League Week One Takeaways

Salt Lake Screaming Eagles debut fan-play calling

Project FANchise and the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles played their first game as a franchise to open the season on Thursday, welcoming in the Nebraska Danger.

Even though it was a risky move to have this game open the IFL season, Salt Lake’s debut went over well.

The Eagles saw over 8,000 fans pile into the Maverik Center to make history as the first group of fans to call a touchdown-scoring play.

Fans stormed the field directly after the touchdown to celebrate the score. That was tacky.

A touchdown in the first quarter should never warrant storming the field, and it could have easily been avoided. Though, that was a negative on a night that was more so filled with positives.

The Eagles got a breakout performance by former BYU receiver Devin Mahina. Although they weren’t able to win, it was about all anyone could ask for out of the franchise’s first game ever.

Games Streamed Live on YouTube

A new addition to the Indoor Football League this season was the ability to watch each and every game through YouTube.

Thursday night’s stream for the Salt Lake – Nebraska game was as crisp as they come. However, for the three other games, there was either audio or video quality issues.
At the end of the day, IFL fans should be thankful that they can watch all of the games for free this season.

Wichita Falls’ Offense Steamrolls Iowa Defense

It was no debate that the Wichita Falls Nighthawks had the best offense in the IFL in 2016. They showed it again on Saturday.

The Nighthawks put up 68 points on the Iowa Barnstormers, who entered the game with two all-IFL defenders on their team.

This can be an attest to how good of a quarterback Charles McCullum, who had only five incompletions all night, is.
