The Cleveland Browns will trade hybrid linebacker, Barkevious Mingo, to the New England Patriots, this according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The Browns will get a fifth round pick.

Mingo, 25, was drafted by the Browns out of LSU with the sixth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The Cleveland Browns Traded Barkevious Mingo to the New England Patriots

The former LSU Tiger standout becomes the most recent first round draft pick to be either traded or released by the Cleveland Browns. Mingo joins Phil Taylor (No. 21, 2011), Trent Richardson (No. 3, 2012), Brandon Weeden (No. 22, 2012) and Johnny Manziel (No. 22, 2014) as first round draft picks who didn’t live up to their expectations.

Back in March, the Browns declined to pick up Mingo’s fifth-year option. This led many to believe that the former first rounders time in Cleveland was running out. A team source recently told Ian Rapoport of the  NFL Network that in order for the Browns to even consider offering Mingo a new contract, he would have to have a big year. But as of Thursday afternoon, that is no longer an issue for Cleveland.

Patriots head coach, Bill Belichick, now has a group of linebackers that are extremely athletic and versatile. The group of linebackers are led by starters Jabaal Sheard and Rob Ninkovichfollowed by backups Chris Long, Shea McClellin, Trey Flowers  and now Barkevious Mingo.

According to Ian Rapoport, Mingo is expected to join the Patriots in North Carolina on Thursday.

The New England Patriots have now acquired the No. 6 and No. 7 overall picks from the 2013 NFL Draft in separate trades. The Patriots acquired offensive lineman Jonathan Cooper from the Arizona Cardinals in which they sent linebacker Chandler Jones to Arizona in return this past off-season.
