Stormin’ Ron Norman ‘Proud’ of Homecoming run at Iowa

NASCAR K&N Pro Series Driver, Ron Norman was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa; a town that sits just 140 miles away from the track that the series visited on Friday Night. A number of family members and friends made the trip down to the 7/8th’s mile oval to see Norman compete in the Casey’s 150.

“This is an awesome place, man,” Norman said.” Just look at the weather, its a beautiful day. All my family lives in Davenport, and really all over Iowa actually like Waterloo and Cedar Rapids. It’s just amazing to come back home and be able to spend time with my high school buddies, and my mom and dad.”

Norman had already moved to Arizona (where he still resides) when Iowa Speedway was completely built.

“I moved to Arizona in 1988 from Northern Minnesota. When they started building this place, I could not believe it,” Norman said. “We were pretty excited about it, we ran some ASA Late Model Tour and Midwest Tour back in 2008 and 2009. Its a premier facility in the middle of the country.”

Norman started off his K&N Career in 2015, and has earned three top ten’s in 2016.

“[The K&N Series is] amazing, it’s just very, very difficult. Everybody is so fast and they’re such good drivers. Everybody is a champion of something in this series.

Norman finished 23rd overall at Iowa on Friday, but crossed the line 11th in the West Side of the series, where the points mattered.

“I’m proud I came out without any trouble and just held my own. I didnt have a very fast car today for some reason, but we gained some points and did pretty good for West Positions.

“I’m Proud of the fact we did not do anything bad to the car. We were twice as good as we were last year when we came here, now its just a matter of getting the right equipment to make ourselves better.

Norman exits Iowa Speedway with his 7th top 15 in 8 races, and sits 10th in points; 78 back of leader, Todd Gilliland.
