Gracin Raz battles from 17th twice, to finish 9th

Gracin Raz started 17th in Friday’s Casey’s 150 at Iowa Speedway, and battled back to 9th place not once, but twice.

By the halfway mark, Raz had used the high line to work his way all the way up to 9th prior to the halfway break.

“It felt really good,” Raz said. “I was inside the top ten before the halfway mark, I knew we had a really good car.”

After the halfway mark, Raz missed a shift on the restart and again dropped back to 17th.

“I missed a shift there and dropped back to 17th and recovered back to 9th place,” Raz said. “It feels really good to put this Montana Tech Ford Fusion back where it belongs, I feel like we had a top five car, but things just did not go our way.”

Although, Raz has now finished in the top four in each of the past five NASCAR K&N West Series Events.

“It feels pretty good just tallying off,” Raz said. “The hardest part is the two guys that I need behind me finished 1-2, so we just need to keep picking away.”

Raz now sits 5th in the NASCAR K&N West Series Standings, just 33 points out of first.

“We have just got to keep working on the car, practice better, we are racing at a couple good tracks for me that I grew up racing around, so hopefully we can steal a win from these guys and see what we can do.”

Raz might have been referring to Roseville, the track where he got his first K&N Series win at. The Series next event will be on August 13th at Evergreen Speedway.
