England and Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has signed a new deal believed to be worth around £100,000 a week. The 29-year-old has committed his future to the current Premier League champions. There was strong speculation that he would leave for Arsenal.

According to a number of sources, Vardy was offered £120,000 by the London club. This coming after they activated a release clause of around 20 million. However, he has opted to stay at the Premier League champions.

Vardy commits his future to Leicester

Vardy was integral in the Foxes historic Premier League triumph. He scored 24 goals and providing six assists in 36 games last season. The 29-year-old also broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of consecutive matches scored in with 11.

Next season, he will lead Leicester into their momentous first ever Champions League campaign. His sensational involvement in Leicester’s success was acknowledged as he was named Premier League player of the Year. As well as the Football Writer’s Association Player of the Year.

The England striker’s meteoric rise has now become very well documented. If the reported figure of 100k a week is true, he will be earning over 3,000 times what he earned in 2007 at Stocksbridge Park Steels – £30.

Vardy joined Leicester from then Conference National side Fleetwood Town in 2012. Since then Vardy has scored 50 goals in 144 appearances for the club. However, German side RB Leipzig‘s manager Ralf Rangnick has claimed that Vardy almost joined the club at the start of last season. The 57-year-old claimed he turned down the chance to sign the striker due to him being “too old.”

Both Vardy and Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri are yet to comment on the news. However, in an official club statement Leicester have said, “Both parties hope that this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie’s future and confirm his long term commitment to Leicester City Football Club. Jamie will continue to focus all of his efforts on trying to achieve success with the England team at the European Championships in France.”
