Georges St-Pierre is Ready to Return to the UFC

After an interview with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour on Monday, it appears that Georges St-Pierre is ready to return to the UFC.

After an almost three year absence from the UFC, Georges “Rush” St-Pierre has confirmed that he is indeed ready to return to the Octagon. St-Pierre appeared on the MMA Hour on Monday and told host Ariel Helwani, “I’m ready.”

The former UFC welterweight champion has had a tumultuous relationship over the years with the UFC, and suddenly disappeared from the sport in late 2013 after his split decision victory over Johny Hendricks, for his ninth consecutive welterweight title defense.  But after a long layoff, St-Pierre appears poised for a comeback.

“The thing is I love my sport and I still feel that I’m at my best right now and the clock is running,” St-Pierre said. “I’m not getting any younger. I’m in my peak of my career and if there is a shot that there is another run, I better do it and do it quick because it’s time to do it now.”

St-Pierre also went on to briefly comment on what it would take contractually to get him back in the UFC.

“Now I know for a fact that I could go back and fight if my management and the UFC get to an agreement,” St-Pierre said. “I always said that I would come back for something big, something that gives me the chills, something that makes me excited.”

If and when St-Pierre does return, there are many exciting fight for the former welterweight kingpin to take.  Current champion Robbie Lawler is set to face Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 on July 31st, with Stephen Thompson potentially taking on the winner.  A match-up between any of the three of them would be alluring for fight fans; as would the long sought after super-fight between St-Pierre and Anderson Silva, or a fight with the current middleweight champion, Michael Bisping, whom St-Pierre recently said he had an interest in fighting.
