Logan Watkins Adjusts to being Back on the Field

Logan Watkins ended his 2014 season by being called up to Chicago and hitting his first major league home run.

However, before he could continue where he left off, and before he could even set foot on the field in 2015, Watkins was sidelined by an Achilles injury.

Watkins has been used as a utility player during his career, playing basically every position on the field at some point, excluding pitcher and catcher.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Watkins said, after playing his in his first professional game since 2014.

It has not been the best of starts for Watkins, who still seems to be trying to get back into the swing of things. He’s hitting at a .175 clip so far this season; that average dips far below his career .272.

The 26-year-old has still shown signs of life, however. During a game against New Orleans, Watkins went 4-4 with three RBI in a 9-5 Iowa Cubs win.

Now, fans might wonder what is so special about Logan Watkins, and its simple: he’s a Cub, and not just a Cubs player. He’s a player that does not know anything outside of their organization.

Watkins was drafted 21st overall in the 2008 Amateur Draft, and was sent to the Cubs Rookie League team in Meza.

As each year passed, Watkins got his call up. He joined Boise in 2009, Peoria in 2010, Daytona in 2011, and Tennessee in 2012. Finally, after a stellar 2013 season in Iowa, he was called up to Chicago to make his first major league start.

“I just want to stay healthy this year, last year was the first time I’ve ever been injured at any point,” Watkins said. “I want to have a good year.”
