Panthers Sign Jaromir Jagr to One Year Extension

On Thursday afternoon, the Florida Panthers announced that they have re-signed 44 year old, veteran forward Jaromir Jagr to a one year contract extension.  As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed to the public.

“Jaromir is a Hall of Fame player and had an excellent season playing alongside Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau.  His track record speaks for itself, ranking third all-time in points and goals. He has been a great fit with our organization and we are excited to have him back for next season, ” said Panthers Executive Vice President and general manager Dale Tallon in a press release issued by the team and on NHL.com.

“Jaromir has had a tremendous influence on our younger players and has been a key offensive contributor on our team,” Panthers head coach Gerard Gallant said. “We are happy to have him back as we look to build off this year’s playoff appearance.”

Jaromir Jagr had 27 goals and 39 assists for a total of 66 points in 79 games played in the 2015-2016 National Hockey League regular season.  He also had two assists in the Panthers six games in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the New York Islanders.  This year was also a year of records for the 44 year old forward; including passing Gordie Howe (1,850) to claim third all-time in points and passing Brett Hull (741) to claim third all-time in goals, while also becoming only the sixth player in NHL history to reach 1,100 assists, the fifth player to reach 200 post-season points and 10th player to reach 1,600 NHL games.

Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports that Jagr will be paid $4 million in base salary. He also has games played bonuses in the deal that could be worth an additional $1.5 million.
