Let’s Talk CFL Episode #92 Recap – Jonathan Hefney, Zach Collaros, and More

Segments 1, 2, 3, & 4 – CFL Quarterbacks

Tonight we change things up a bit to expand the discussion about CFL QBs. Thanks to Jamie Nye of CFL.ca we’ll talk about his article entitled — Success Starts Under Centre, But Who Will Have It In 2016?  Let’s go through his rankings of the top QB tandems around the league and rank them ourselves. http://www.cfl.ca/2016/05/03/nye-success-starts-centre-will-2016/

Segment 6 – Zach Collaros

Also via. CFL.ca, Tiger Cats QB, Zach Collaros, to miss the start of the regular season. “Collaros was having an MVP-caliber year in 2015 until he injured his ACL in a September contest against the Edmonton Eskimos. Austin also confirmed that former all-star safety Craig Butler will also miss the year in all likelihood due to injury.” http://www.cfl.ca/2016/05/04/collaros-to-miss-start-of-regular-season-says-austin/

Segment 7 – Jonathan Hefney

Retirement is a reality for players and clubs on the CFL. Every year at least a dozen guys choose to hang up the cleats for different reasons. Last month it was OL Ben Heenan. Last week it was LB Tyron Brackenridge and WR Maurice Price. This week it was HB Jonathan Hefney who signed a one day deal with Winnipeg to retire a Bomber after an ugly injury took him out last October with Montreal. It was also two more Riders. The first, OL Bruce Campbell, who was a recent acquisition via trade with the Argos. The second was DT Tearrius George who retired, “to focus on a personal issue”. Now, we all heard there was an incident at his home with his partner and he’s asked, “for people to respect (his) families privacy at this time”. We will. Instead of getting into that, let’s talk about the leagues policy on domestic violence.  https://m.thestar.com/sports/football/2015/09/11/cfl-doubles-down-on-violence-against-women.html

Segment 8 – the CFL Draft

The CFL Draft will expand by adding an eighth round in 2016. News also that the first round of the draft will be broadcast on TSN2/RDS2 and the entire draft will be broadcast on the TSN GO app. Why do you suppose they are adding a round? Should it be permanent?  http://www.cfl.ca/2016/05/04/2016-cfl-draft-to-be-held-may-10-at-7pm-on-tsn2-and-rds2/  &  https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/cfl-55-yard-line/cfl-expands-draft-to-an-eighth-round–but-this-draft-is-still-under-the-radar-172936045.html

Segment 9 – New Ticats Offensive Coordinator?

This from Scott Radley of 3DownNation. “McMaster head coach Stefan Ptaszek appears to be headed to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to take over as the team’s offensive co-ordinator.”  http://3downnation.com/2016/05/04/macs-ptaszek-set-named-ticats-oc/

Three Minute Warning – Kent Austin

Did Kent Austin REALLY have an allergic reaction last night or did he have a minor stroke or heart attack after learning about Collaros on top of the Butler news?
