Arsenal on Loan: Jon Toral Goal

A Jon Toral goal highlighted an otherwise mixed week for Arsenal players out on loan, as only three Gunner loanees managed to feature.

This season Last Word on Sports will be keeping you up to date on the Arsenal players out on loan, as they continue to develop their skills and prove they are ready to compete for a place in the Arsenal side.

The players away on loan are:

  • Wojciech Szczesny (GK), on loan to AS Roma in Serie A
  • Yaya Sanogo (ST), on loan to Charlton Athletic in the Championship
  • Ainsley Maitland-Niles (MID), on loan to Ipswich Town in the Championship
  • Isaac Hayden (CB/MID), on loan to Hull City in the Championship
  • Chuba Akpom (ST), on loan to Hull City in the Championship
  • Jon Toral (MID), on loan to Birmingham City in the Championship
  • Emiliano Martinez (GK), on loan to Wolves in the Championship
  • Wellington Silva (MID), on loan to Bolton in the Championship
  • Gedion Zelalem (MID), on loan to Rangers in the Scottish Championship
  • Glen Kamara (MID), on loan to Southend United in League One
  • Mathieu Debuchy (RB), on loan to Bordeaux in Ligue 1

It was another mixed week for Gunners out on loan, as Wojciech Szczesny and Jon Toral put mostly strong performances and Gedion Zelalem made his return to the Rangers squad. However, those three were the only Arsenal loanees to make appearances, and Toral was forced off early with an injury concern. Another Jon Toral Goal, his 8th of the season, highlighted the weekend for Arsenal loanees.

Wojciech Szczesny started for Roma in their 4-1 win over Lazio. The win took Roma a step closer to clinching second place in Serie A this season. While only forced into two saves, Szczesny was called into action late in the game, saving a header from Lazio’s Marco Parolo to preserve what was then a 2-0 lead for Roma.

Yaya Sanogo continued to serve his suspension and did not play in Charlton’s 2-1 win over Birmingham. Fellow loanee Jon Toral scored for Birmingham in the 32nd minute, but  had to be taken off at the break due to injury. Toral finished off a nice team move from Birmingham, playing the ball wide, then making the far post run and sliding to put home a low cross from the wing.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles did not play in Ipswich Town’s 0-0 draw with Wolves. Fellow loanee Emiliano Martinez was an unused substitute.

Isaac Hayden and teammate Chuba Akpom both did not play as Hull City beat Bristol City 4-0 as Hull continued their push for promotion.

Wellington Silva did not play as Bolton fell 1-0 to Reading. Even a win would not have done much for Bolton’s chances of avoiding relegation, as they sit bottom of the table, 15 points from safety.

Gedion Zelalem made his return to the Rangers squad, coming on in the 80th minute as Rangers drew 3-3 with Raith Rovers. A win would have clinched the Scottish Championship first place for Rangers, as it is, they’ll have to wait another week to do so.

Glen Kamara did not play as Southend lost 2-0 to Blackpool.

Mathieu Debuchy missed out again through injury as Bordeaux won 2-1 over Monaco.
