London Knights Acquire Rights for Sonny Milano

Today saw another player in the Columbus system making moves in the trade market, as young forward, Sonny Milano, had his rights traded from the Flint Firebirds to the London Knights. In exchange for Milano the Firebirds will receive a conditional 15th round draft pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection. This 15th round pick could then change to Sudbury’s 2nd round pick in 2019, as well as North Bay’s 4th round pick in 2016, if Milano steps on the ice for the Knights at any point.

Milano is currently playing in the AHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, where he has made a name for himself. He has played in 22 games this season for the Monsters and has been able to rack up 11 points in the process (4-7-11), as well as 39 shots. Milano also had a brief stint last season in the AHL with the Springfield Falcons, playing in 10 games, getting five assists in the process. Before being called up to play for the Monsters, he played his juniors in the OHL with the Plymouth Whalers, getting an ever-impressive 68 points in 50 games for them (22-46-68).

With the fact at hand that Milano has cemented himself as a regular in the Lake Erie line-up, one will wonder if he will ever suit up for London. But, you would be hard pressed to find a serious hockey fan out there that wouldn’t agree with this being a great deal if he does suit up. Milano recently represented the U.S.A. at the WJHC, bringing home a bronze medal and getting a solid eight points (1-7-8) in 7 games. Milano, a native of Massapequa, NY, was taken with the 16th overall pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
