Must See: Seguin Hat Trick Propels Stars Past Bruins

Almost all the hype around the Dallas Stars so far this season has been on Jamie Benn, the NHL's first star for October and league leader in both points and goals. However, on Tuesday night his linemate Tyler Seguin decided to take some of the spotlight for himself by potting a hat trick against his former team to carry the Stars to a 5-3 victory in Boston over the Bruins.

Almost all the hype around the Dallas Stars so far this season has been centered on Jamie Benn, the NHL’s first star for October and league leader in both points and goals. However, on Tuesday night his linemate Tyler Seguin decided to take some of the spotlight for himself by potting a hat trick against his former team to carry the Stars to a 5-3 victory in Boston over the Bruins.

Seguin opened the scoring just over five minutes into the first period of the game, with a snipe over Tuukka Rask’s left shoulder. That opening goal made him the first player from the 2010 NHL draft to reach 300 points. After the Bruins came back and took a one-goal lead in the second, Seguin leveled the score on the power-play with a slapshot from the top of the faceoff circle. Early in the third period, with Dallas on another power-play, he buried a cross-ice pass from Jason Spezza to complete his seventh career hat trick (sixth with the Stars, tying Mike Modano’s franchise record) – moving him into twelfth among active players.

The fact that Seguin pulled this off at TD Garden, in the very city that ran him out of town, must make it that much sweeter. His new team, with which he’s had much more success (in no small part due to the chemistry he’s developed with Benn) have come out of the gate incredibly hot this year, with a 10-3 record that has them on top of the Western Conference.

After Tuesday night, Seguin is has caught up to his linemate in total points , as they both sit atop the NHL with 20 points each (Benn still has the edge in goals, with 10 to Seguin’s 8).

For those wondering, Loui Eriksson (who went the other way in the Seguin trade of 2013) had two goals in the game.
