Must See: Columbus Blue Jackets Win First Game of Season

Must See: The Columbus Blue Jackets defeat the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 for their first victory of the season.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have finally won their first game of the season. With a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche, the Blue Jackets snag their first two points of the campaign and improve to 1-8-0 on the season.

The Blue Jackets came out of the first period up two to one, but entered the third down by a goal. It was then when they saw Ryan Murray and Brandon Dubinsky score their first and third goals of the season respectively. Throughout the course of the game, the Jackets went one-for-five on the power play and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 31 of 34 shots. Tonight was also of course newly appointed head coach John Tortorella’s first victory since April of 2014 with the Vancouver Canucks (5-1 over the Calgary Flames), making his record 1-1-0 through just two games. The three stars of the game were Boone Jenner (1st), Ryan Murray (2nd) and Jarome Iginla (3rd).

Columbus, who had gotten off to the worst start by an NHL team in 72 years, currently sit in the basement of the National Hockey League, behind the likes of the Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs. This horrid start comes on the heels of a campaign that saw the club decimated by injuries early, effectively knocking them out of the playoff race by the All-Star break.

Up next for the Blue Jackets are the red hot New Jersey Devils, the Washington Capitals, and the Winnipeg Jets to round out the month of October.
