NFL Week 5: Daily Fantasy Sports Top Shelf Plays and Bargains

We take a look at your best bets for fantasy in NFL Week 5, whether you are looking for head to head or tournament plays.

Glad to bring you my suggestions for lineup construction this week for Daily Fantasy Sports.  I play primarily on three sites per week: DraftKings, FanDuel, and GoDraft.  Since I am most active on GoDraft I will mention the prices they use for my Top Shelf options and Bargain Bin suggestions.  You can always message me at @shppirate12 on twitter with specific questions about players or matchups.

NFL Week 5: Daily Fantasy Sports Top Shelf Plays and Bargains

Top Shelf Quarterback:

Tom Brady is priced at $17,300 on GoDraft. He is one of the top priced quarterback options on all sites with Aaron Rogers ahead of him.  In cash games I usually pay up at quarterback and love Brady as an option.  The first place I start when convincing myself of playing a quarterback is the Vegas lines.  New England is favored and is projected to score 29.75 points against the Cowboys.  That is the highest team total this weekend.

Next spot I like to look is the Dallas Cowboys defense statistically.  The Dallas D is giving up 15+ points per game to quarterbacks, 19+ points per game to wide receivers, and 5+ points per game to tight ends.  They are ranked 19 out of 32 teams in giving up 75 fantasy points per game.  They have been trending in the wrong direction lately.

Through three games, Brady has thrown for 370 yards per game and has a 9:0 touchdown to interception ratio.  New England is coming off a bye and I think they are more prepared after hitting the lab for two weeks.  Brady also has elite weapons in Gronk, Julian Edelman, and Dion Lewis out of the backfield.  I project New England to exceed Vegas expectations and score over 30 points this week.

Bargain Bin Quarterback:

Marcus Mariota is priced at a cool $12,000. I also like Mike Vick and Josh McCown as bargain bin quarterbacks but Mariota is my selection here.  Vegas has the Tennessee team total at 19.75 and I think that is low.  The Tennessee running game has been suspect at best and I believe Mariota is accurate and comfortable hitting his weapons on crossing patterns.

Tight end Delanie Walker is healthy and a favorite of Mariota.  Kendall Wright is his underneath option and was targeted 12 times in week 3.  You can stack Mariota with either of these two options.  Wright has a good matchup as Buffalo’s slot corner has low coverage grades.  Buffalo is giving up over 300 passing yards per week and 20 fantasy points per game to the quarterback position and 30 fantasy points per game to the opposing wide receivers.

Top Shelf Running Back:

Eddie Lacy is in a good spot this week. He is the fifth highest priced running back on GoDraft at $12,700.  St. Louis is a top ten defense but is giving up 22+ fantasy points per game to running backs so I think Lacy can continue that trend.  This looks like a Lacy game and with a Vegas total of 27.75 team points for the Packers I can see Lacy going for two scores.

Bargain Bin Running Back:

Todd Gurley finally broke out for St. Louis last week. He was explosive with the ball in his 21 touches.  Priced at $6,600 on GoDraft he makes for a great high reward play.  The Green Bay defense is giving up 16 fantasy points per game to opposing running backs but I expect Gurley to get his first NFL touchdown this week and for St. Louis to try and keep Aaron Rogers off the field and grind it out on the ground.

Top Shelf Wide Receiver:

Odell Beckham Jr has been targeted 41 times this season. He is the second highest priced wide receiver after Julio Jones at a price of $17,000.  San Francisco has a weak secondary and is giving up 27 fantasy points per game to wide receivers.  I like Beckham to bust out and have one of his big games in this spot.

Bargain Bin Wide Receiver:

Oftentimes injuries open up opportunity and that is where Jamison Crowder finds himself this week. He is a minimum price at $4,800 and has a high ceiling in PPR.  Washington is a road dog in this matchup against Atlanta and will most likely be playing catchup all afternoon.  Washington will be without DeSean Jackson and Jordan Reed so Crowder will be targeted and he led Washington in targets last week with 12.

Top Shelf Tight End:

I watched the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills game last week and was amazed how often Charles Clay was able to create separation. Clay is priced at a modest $9,900 on GoDraft which is the eighth most expensive tight end and I project he will outscore all players at his position on the week except Gronk.  Especially in a PPR league he will see at least 13 targets again just like last week vs the Giants.  He had a huge week 4 and had a touchdowns called back because of a penalty with would have been an 11 point play in fantasy with PPR.  Buffalo has a bunch of injuries at running back so I believe they will rely on the short passing game to move the ball.

Bargain Bin Tight End:

Antonio Gates is back after serving a four-game suspension for PEDs and San Diego needs him. They have injuries at wide receiver and Philip Rivers needs someone else to target other than Keenan Allen.  I see Gates getting worked right into the San Diego passing game and remember he went for 12 touchdowns last year.  He’s always been a red zone target and expect that to continue.  Take advantage of the low price tag in his first game back.

Good luck this week playing Daily Fantasy Sports.  I have a contest in the lobby at godraft.com for my readers if you want to compete against me.  Feel free to contact me on my twitter at @shppirate12 with any lineup questions or links for a bonus if you want to try one of the sites.
