Habs Forward Zack Kassian injured in car accident

Update: Kassian is said to have suffered a broken foot and broken nose in the accident.  His condition was updated by Marc Bergevin in a noon press conference on Monday. The Canadiens are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

Early Sunday morning, Habs forward Zack Kassian was in a car accident. He was one of two passengers in a truck driven by an unidentified 20 year old female, the other was an 18 year old female. Kassian was sent to the hospital, to treat minor injuries.

Reports say that at around 6am Sunday morning, the vehicle that Kassian was in hit a tree, in the Montreal neighbourhood of Notre-Dame-De-Grace. According to Manuel Couture the Montreal Police spokesperson who announced the crash, speed did not seem to be a factor in the crash.

Zack Kassian is now under the care, of the Canadiens team doctors. Kassian and the Canadiens had just gotten back from a preseason game against the Senators in Ottawa. Head coach Michel Therrien gave the team the day off after their final preseason game. The team will be back at practice on Monday in Brossard. It’s still unclear what will be the timetable for Kassian’s return will be.

The Canadiens acquired Kassian and a 5th round pick for Brandon Prust from the Vancouver Canucks in a trade made earlier this summer.
