Penguins Rookie Tournament Audio

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears for HOCKEY IS BACK.

After a painful summer, our favorite sport is back on the ice.  Across the league a number of rookie tournaments are taking place and as they conclude NHL training camps will open.  The NHL returns, and LWOS is here to cover all the action.

This weekend, Charlie O’Connor Clarke and I from the Last Word on Sports hockey team were lucky enough to attend the NHL Rookie Tournament held at the Budweiser Gardens in London Ontario, featuring prospects from the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens.  We obtained a ton of audio at the event, and we’re going to share it with you today.

Pittsburgh Penguins Rookie Tournament Audio

The Penguins started the tournament strong with a 4-3 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens on a Daniel Sprong game winning goal.  They followed that up with a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators in which they dominated every facet of the game.  When the Senators beat the Canadiens in regulation on Sunday afternoon, the Penguins had clinched the victory in the rookie tournament, before their game with the Toronto Maple Leafs even began.  Its a good thing too, as the third game was not pretty with the Leafs defeating the Penguins by a score of 6-2.

Along the way we got the following audio.

Jean Sebastian Dea – following the win over Ottawa

Tristan Jarry – following the win over Ottawa

Derrick Pouliot – following the conclusion of the tournament

Charlie and I would like to thank the Pittsburgh Penguins, the NHL, the London Knights, and the Budweiser Gardens for allowing us access to this event, and stay tuned for more great audio from the Canadiens, Senators, and Maple Leafs.
