2015 Belgian Grand Prix McLaren Preview

The Formula One circus has come back from its compulsory summer break and it is raring to go once again. Depending on which reports you read, McLaren could well be set for either a good or a trying event at the majestic Spa-Francorchamps circuit. After the strong result last time out at Hungary on a day where the likes of Mercedes, Williams and Ferrari all managed to trip up, a similar result on the tricky Spa circuit is not expected. Whilst the track does feature a lot of corners, it also features one of the fastest sections in Formula One. Nonetheless, if a high rate of attrition occurs again here, McLaren should be ready to try and pick up the pieces.

2015 Belgian Grand Prix McLaren Preview

No. 14 Fernando Alonso
Form: R/R/R/10/5
2014: Grid: P4; Race: P7

Belgium remains one of the few events that Fernando Alonso has failed to win to date in his long career. He generally performs pretty well here, and even overtook four cars on the final lap in the dramatic 2008 race en route to fourth place in his Renault. The chassis is expected to be useful in the second sector here at Spa, which is pretty much a long sequence of medium to fast corners. Points could well be possible for the third race in a row.

No. 22 Jenson Button
Form: 8/R/R/R/9
2014: Grid: P10; Race: P6

2012 winner Jenson Button is in need of a strong result. The events of Hungary have seen Button go from having four times as many points as Alonso to just over half as many. Bar that win in 2012, Spa has not been the happiest of hunting grounds for Button, but he has finished on the podium on two other occasions.
