Week 8 CFL Predictions

It’s first and ten on another week of CFL football – although in this season that means it’ll soon be first and thirty, after four consecutive procedure calls. We’ll see how many flags are thrown on the LWOS CFL crew for their Week 8 CFL predictions.

Edmonton Eskimos at Montreal Alouettes

Edmonton’s four wins help them in the standings but have yet to find any consistency on offence, a problem made worse with their best receiver, Adarius Bowman, expected to miss another game nursing a tender hip. And their league-topping defence was exploited last week by B.C.’s Andrew Harris – and this week they face the Als’ Tyrell Sutton, who is an equally effective threat. The Alouettes are a good football team; all four of their losses have been decided by four points or fewer. They’ve proven to be a pesky opponent, having beaten Calgary and Hamilton – not bad considering the team is rebuilding.

Kelly Bale: Edmonton 28 – Montreal 20
Matthew Bin: Edmonton 28 – Montreal 15
Connor Ferguson: Edmonton 6 – Montreal 33
Nicholas di Giovanni: Edmonton 29 – Montreal 20
Lance Keiser: Edmonton 25 – Montreal 22
Gina Schiltz: Edmonton 35 – Montreal 30
Michael Wilts: Edmonton 28 – Montreal 23

Toronto Argonauts at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Lance’s thoughts: Toronto is coming off a last play win against the winless Roughriders, Winnipeg is limping home after the trashing they took in Hamilton and with QB Drew Willy out with a busted knee there is no reason to think that Winnipeg will come out firing. Take Toronto in a game that should feature a lot of passing plays on their side and look for Marve – and maybe Brohm – to have a better game in a losing effort.

Kelly Bale: Toronto 24 – Winnipeg 11
Matthew Bin: Toronto 30 – Winnipeg 10
Connor Ferguson: Toronto 17 – Winnipeg 24
Nicholas di Giovanni: Toronto 17 – Winnipeg 13
Lance Keiser: Toronto 33 – Winnipeg 19
Gina Schiltz: Toronto 33 – Winnipeg 21
Michael Wilts: Toronto 30 – Winnipeg 27

B.C. Lions at Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Nick’s thoughts: Hamilton has been a force to be reckoned with at home, going undefeated at Tim Hortons Field since its inauguration almost a year ago. The Tiger-Cats have been one of the most dominant teams in the league on both sides of the ball. Between Simoni Lawrence’s big-hitting leadership and Bakari Grant’s spectacular season, Hamilton isn’t in line to lose anytime soon. The Lions, despite good play and a few surprising wins, will unfortunately be the victims of what should be another Ticats win at home.

Kelly Bale: B.C. 26 – Hamilton 39
Matthew Bin: B.C. 22 – Hamilton 31
Connor Ferguson: B.C. 16 – Hamilton 35
Nicholas di Giovanni: B.C. 11 – Hamilton 45
Lance Keiser: B.C. 19 – Hamilton 25
Gina Schiltz: B.C. 31 – Hamilton 40
Michael Wilts: B.C. 18 – Hamilton 26

Ottawa Redblacks at Calgary Stampeders

Gina’s thoughts: Ottawa’s win last week against Montreal was impressive. Burris was good but most impressive was Keith Shologan with five tackles and three sacks. Ottawa has proven themselves a contender in the East. Calgary is starting to get a handle on their penalties and their offence is tight. Last time Calgary played the Redblacks, Ottawa won and Henry Burris got payback, but Calgary’s record at home is too impressive, and they don’t want to settle for being tied for first with Edmonton. Calgary is also coming off a bye – they’ll win, but it will be very close.

Kelly Bale: Ottawa 19 – Calgary 20
Matthew Bin: Ottawa 27 – Calgary 20
Connor Ferguson: Ottawa 17 – Calgary 20
Nicholas di Giovanni: Ottawa 29 – Calgary 31
Lance Keiser: Ottawa 25 – Calgary 26
Gina Schiltz: Ottawa 25 – Calgary 26
Michael Wilts: Ottawa 33 – Calgary 35

Week 7 Roundup

Week 7 is in the books and the undisputed vizier champion is Matt B, who called every game correctly. Kelly and Lance were right behind him with only one wrong prediction, and Nick and Gina both finished with even records. This week’s Green and White award unfortunately goes to Matt C, who was just a tad too optimistic about everyone’s chances and ended with an 0-4 record. Unlike Saskatchewan, we expect him to be back on his feet again soon.

Think you can do better than Matt? Worried you’ll do worse than Matt? Well give it a try and enter your picks in the comments. We’ll put yours in the mix with all the Matts’ in next week’s roundup.
