Three cut-price players for your Fantasy Football team in Gameweek 2

Joe Gomez – £4.5 million

The summer signing from Charlton scored 11 points in Gameweek 1 in an impressive debut for Liverpool. Following a string of impressive performances in pre-season and due to the stuttering form last season of ex-Sevilla man Alberto Moreno, Gomez looks certain to maintain his place in a Liverpool back four.

Home games against Bournemouth, West Ham and Norwich see Liverpool likely to keep a couple of clean sheets, at least, despite their defensive frailties last season.

Gomez picked up an assist for Philippe Coutinho’s spectacular goal (even if it was largely down to the Brazilians individual skill with Gomez simply taking the throw-in) and his incredible assist for Dominic Solanke for England u17’s against Turkey suggests Gomez will be capable of providing an attacking threat for Liverpool.

Moreover the acquisition of Christian Benteke hints at the importance of wide players for Liverpool this season. The Belgian thrives off balls into the box and so Gomez’s pace and crossing ability may well be called upon frequently by Brendan Rodgers in order to maximise Liverpool’s attacking potency.

Reece Oxford – £4.0 million

There weren’t many places to hide from this fellow on Sunday afternoon. Besides the social media eruption on the Twittersphere, the domination of the sport’s pages and media coverage, Mesut Ozil found out first hand that Reece Oxford would impose himself all over the Emirates pitch.

£4 million is incredibly cheap.

This however seems an even better deal when we find out that Oxford was playing in the defensive central midfield role, rather than in defence where Fantasy Premier League assigns him. Although he is hardly likely to be smashing in goals, it does mean he may find himself from time to time with goal-scoring opportunities.

Plus he will benefit from West Ham’s famous defensive solidity.

With two home matches against Leicester and Bournemouth coming up next for Slaven Bilic’s men a couple of clean sheets are not out of the question.

Although Oxford may not be a starter week in, week out – even more so with the imminent arrival of Joey Barton – he may be worth a spot on the bench. £4 million won’t buy you anybody cheaper in defence and with the 3-5-2 formation offering a rotation of defenders it is a no-brainer to bring him in as a squad player before his price inevitably rises.

Wilfried Zaha – £5.5 million

A bit of a forgotten man at Selhurst Park. But following his disastrous period at Old Trafford, Zaha looks ready to impress in a rejuvenated Crystal Palace side under Alan Pardew.

The winger has been given a freer role by Pardew since he took over, giving him the confidence to express himself on a football pitch. This is key for players like Zaha who can’t be afraid to take players on. As a result of this Zaha has set himself a goal tally target of ten: a total that would rake in a tidy return for your minimal investment of £5.5 million.

Pardew has won eleven of his nineteen Palace games and although they have some incredibly tricky games coming up (Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham are their opponents over the next five games) their ability to play on the counter with the pace of Bolasie, Puncheon and Zaha cannot be underestimated.

Palace look like a team that could really push on under Pardew and such a cheap option for your bench to bring on when Palace play weaker teams or if you have a suspension/injury in midfield could provide you with a  great points earner.

So…

So see if any of these three players could be brought into your team to free up funds and provide a steady stream of points to keep your team competitive.
