Sens’ Mike Hoffman Awarded 1-Year, $2 Million Deal

The Senators have finally settled a deal with rookie star Mike Hoffman.

After scoring 27 goals in his first full season, including scoring six goals in a month three times, Hoffman was due for a little raise after getting picked in the fifth round at the 2009 draft. He’s bounced from Binghamton(AHL affiliate) to Ottawa the past few seasons before earning his ice in 2014-15. The one-year contract is likely a bridge deal to see how Hoffman will fare coming off such an impressive campaign.

More from the Ottawa Senators official press release:

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the National Hockey League’s arbitrator has awarded forward Mike Hoffman a one-year contract with a value of $ 2.0 million.

Hoffman, 25, established new statistical career highs in all major categories in 2014-15, registering 48 points (27 goals, 21 assists) and 14 penalty minutes over 79 regular-season contests. His 27 markers saw him lead both the Senators and NHL rookies while his 48 points ranked fourth among league rookies in scoring. In tandem with Mark Stone, Hoffman was among only the second pair of Senators rookies to record at least 20 goals in one season since Alexandre Daigle and Alexei Yashin accomplished the feat during the 1993-94 season.

A native of Kitchener, Ont., and drafted by the Senators with their first fifth-round selection (130th overall) in the of the 2009 NHL Draft, Hoffman, who finished second to Tampa Bay’s Jonathan Drouin in the Fastest Skater skills event at the 2015 NHL All-Star Skills Competition last January in Columbus, has recorded 54 points (30 goals, 24 assists) and 18 penalty minutes over 108 career NHL contests.
