SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The San Francisco Giants have acquired right-handed pitcher Mike Leake from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for minor league infielder Adam Duvall and minor league right-handed pitcher Keury Mella, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Bobby Evans announced tonight.

Leake, 27, has gone 9-5 with a 3.56 ERA (54er, 136.2ip) in 21 starts for the Reds this season. He’s been solid in his last four starts, going 4-0 with a 0.60 ERA (2er, 30.0ip). Entering today’s games he led all Reds pitchers in wins, innings pitched and starts, while ranking second on the staff in ERA and opponents’ batting average against (.240).

The San Diego, California native has logged at least 7.0 innings in 11 of his 21 starts this season, including 8.0+ innings in seven of those 21 assignments. Entering today his 136.2 innings pitched ranked as the fifth-most among National League pitchers.

Leake can also handle the bat as his 76 career hits are the most by any Major League pitcher since his debut in 2010. He has twice in his career led National League pitchers in batting average (.356 in 2010, .305 in 2012) and he has five career home runs, including one this season off Atlanta’s Shelby Miller.

Drafted by the Reds in the first round (eighth selection overall) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, Leake has posted a 62-47 record with a 3.87 ERA (442er, 1028.1ip) in 168 games (163 starts) in six seasons in a Reds uniform.

Duvall, 26, has spent the entire 2015 campaign with triple-A Sacramento, batting .279 (112-for-402) with 25 doubles, 26 home runs and 80 RBI in 100 games. The Louisville, Kentucky native made his big league debut with the Giants last season, appearing in 28 games and going 14-for-73 (.192) with three home runs and five RBI. Duvall was drafted by the Giants in the 11th round of the 2010 draft.

Mella, who turns 22 years old on Sunday, has gone 5-3 with a 3.31 ERA (30er, 81.2ip) in 16 starts for Class A Advanced San Jose this season. Signed by the Giants as a non-drafted free agent in 2011, Mella represented the organization at the 2015 Futures Game, playing for the World Team during All-Star festivities in Cincinnati earlier this month.
