CFL Predictions Week 6

Another weekend of the 2015 season is in the books, and so we turn to CFL predictions week 6. Overtime losses, come-from-behind wins, and… well, Winnipeg. Which winners will our prognosticators pick this week? See below for our predictions.

B.C. Lions at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Lance’s thoughts: The battle of two maturing teams maturing as the season goes on. The Lions can beat the play-for-three-quarters Riders and then move on to play for only one half against the Argos. Are the Lions that bad? No, just not good enough yet.‎ On the flip side are the Bombers, a team capable of taking the defending Grey Cup champs to the brink, but also only able to put up three points against the Eskimos in 60 minutes. If B.C. put in the work this week and realize game plans need to change, they should take care of Winnipeg. However, after Winnipeg’s spanking last week, expect the Bombers to come out and take charge. This could be a statement game for the Blue and Gold, and a look in the mirror game for B.C.

Kelly Bale: B.C. 31 – Winnipeg 17
Matthew Bin: B.C. 29 – Winnipeg 11
Matthew Crockett: B.C. 27 – Winnipeg 17
Nicholas di Giovanni: B.C. 32 – Winnipeg 17
Lance Keiser: B.C. 22 – Winnipeg 27
Gina Schiltz: B.C. 31 – Winnipeg 14

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Edmonton Eskimos

Nick’s thoughts: With Kevin Glenn out of commission for the next six weeks, Brett Smith will have to take control of a strong offence on a weak team. The outlook doesn’t look bright. As for the Eskies, after a stellar Week Five performance holding the Bombers to a field goal, they will come into this one full of confidence. The defence – even with Odell Willis not playing as much as he should – will absolutely dominate this Riders attack and blow out this game.

Kelly Bale: Saskatchewan 22 – Edmonton 20
Matthew Bin: Saskatchewan 15 – Edmonton 33
Matthew Crockett: Saskatchewan 14 – Edmonton 45
Nicholas di Giovanni: Saskatchewan 9 – Edmonton 22
Lance Keiser: Saskatchewan 28 – Edmonton 22
Gina Schiltz: Saskatchewan 29 – Edmonton 37

Montreal Alouettes at Calgary Stampeders

Gina’s thoughts: This is the second meeting between the Stampeders and the Alouettes this season. In their first meeting, Montreal prevailed 29-11. Rakeem Cato continues to impress, while Bo Levi Mitchell continues to bewilder. What stood out last week was Calgary’s problems in their secondary while Montreal’s success seems to rely on only a few key playmakers. This game is going to come down to the team with the best defence and fewest penalties. You might automatically choose Montreal, but you can’t ignore Calgary’s hom record and the fact that Calgary hasn’t lost two in a row in years.  My gut feeling – Calgary’s going to come away with an upset win, and tradition dictates it’ll be in the last few seconds of the game.

Kelly Bale: Montreal 27 – Calgary 38
Matthew Bin: Montreal 21 – Calgary 19
Matthew Crockett: Montreal 22 – Calgary 35
Nicholas di Giovanni: Montreal 19 – Calgary 18
Lance Keiser: Montreal 27 – Calgary 27
Gina Schiltz: Montreal 27 – Calgary 29

.

Toronto Argonauts at Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Matt B’s thoughts: The Argonauts have looked like a very good team this year. Good teams find ways to win, and even getting behind 21-0 last week, they fought back and sealed the victory. The problem is that they have yet to look like a great team, even with an overachieving Trevor Harris under centre. Meanwhile, the Ticats’ plethora of pre-season injuries are starting to retake the field, and the return of impact players like C.J. Gable have made a middling team into a very, very good team. The Ticats won’t stay so low in the East standings for long, and this game will be their first step up the ladder.

Kelly Bale: Toronto 39 – Hamilton 27
Matthew Bin: Toronto 18 – Hamilton 35
Matthew Crockett: Toronto 24 – Hamilton 23
Nicholas di Giovanni: Toronto 33 – Hamilton 39
Lance Keiser: Toronto 28 – Hamilton 20
Gina Schiltz: Toronto 26 – Hamilton 37

Week 5 Roundup

The week 5 picks weren’t so much about surprise wins as they were poor luck. No one saw Ottawa coming; almost everyone saw Hamilton’s resurgence. In the end, Kelly and Matt C had only one correct pick; Matt B and Mike split at 2 and 2; and Nick, Connor, and Lance picked three out of four. Ottawa, man. Where’d Ottawa come from?

Anyhow, leave your picks in the comments and we’ll include you in next week’s roundup. Shame our CFL writers with your accurate picks! They need the motivation!
