On the Power Play – NHL Free Agency and Trades

Last Word on Sports is proud to present their hockey podcast, On the Powerplay with Ben and Dave. Join Ben Kerr and Dave Gove each week as they take a look around the Hockey World focusing on the big issues of the NHL and elsewhere.

NHL Free Agency is here, and we’ve had an exciting first day.  Dave and Ben are here to give you all the details, and analysis of the biggest moves of the day.

The Phil Kessel trade is the big news of the day. Can he get the Penguins to the next level? What did the Leafs get in return?  Was it enough or should they have waited for a better offer.

The Boston Bruins have made a number of moves in the past week.  With Milan Lucic, Dougie Hamilton, and Reilly Smith out, and a bunch of draft picks, Jimmy Hayes, Matt Beleskey, and some prospects coming in, what do Dave and Ben think of the work that Don Sweeney has been doing in Boston.

The Flames got Dougie Hamilton from Boston and now have added Michael Frolik in a big free agent splash.  Have they improved their team enought to continue moving forward?

The Red Wings were also making splashes adding Mike Green and Brad Richards.  Can they extend the playoff streak.

The Mike Richards situation is murky in Los Angeles.  What is the latest and how do the boys feel about it.

Add to this analysis of moves like Andrej Sekera, Brandon Saad, Zack Kassian, Brandon Prust, Kevin Bieksa, Antoine Vermette, Cody Hodgson, Mike Ribeiro, Michael Neuvirth, Bud Holloway, Viktor Tikhonov Jr., Kirill Petrov, Ruslan Fedotenko, and more.

Alls this and more, on the powerplay.
