On The PowerPowerplay – Stanley Cup Finals Preview and More

Nine months of hockey, 30 teams and its all come down to this, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Tampa Bay Lightning will face off in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Last Word on Sports is proud to present their hockey podcast, On the Powerplay with Ben and Dave. Join Ben Kerr and Dave Gove each week as they take a look around the Hockey World focusing on the big issues of the NHL and elsewhere.

Nine months of hockey, 30 teams playing 82 regular season games, 16 teams qualifying for the playoffs, two teams winning 12 playoff games, its all come down to this, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Tampa Bay Lightning will face off in the Stanley Cup Finals beginning on Wednesday night. Steven Stamkos, Victor Hedman, Tyler Johnson, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, and Duncan Keith; if there is one thing this series certainly has, its star power.

Ben and Dave are here to break down all aspects of the matchup.  Who has the better top six forwards?  What team has more depth upfront? Can the Hawks play with just four defencemen (basically) for another round, or does this give Tampa an edge?  How will Tampa’s speed game where down those defence when Anaheim’s size and power game could not?

How do Victor Hedman and Anton Stralman match up against Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook?  Can the league’s number one defensive club stop the NHL’s highest goal scoring team this season? What about Corey Crawford and Ben Bishop, does one side have the edge between the pipes?  What about behind the bench, can new school Jon Cooper beat old school Joel Quenneville?

The boys answer those questions and more, and then make their predictions about how the 2015 Stanley Cup Final will go.

They finish off the show with a look back at an exciting Memorial Cup Tournament, that culminated in an Oshawa Generals overtime win over the Kelowna Rockets.  Then its on to some AHL Playoff action, and finally some Stanley Cup Playoff Trivia.

Finishing off Dave and Ben look at new New Jersey Devils coach John Hynes, and the relationship he has with Ray Shero and Lou Lamoriello.
