Key Questions Linger as the NFL Draft Approaches

With the 2015 NFL draft approximately a week and a half away, the rumor mill is churning.

It won’t be long now.

With the 2015 NFL draft approximately a week and a half away, the rumor mill is churning. While no one knows for certain what will transpire on April 30th and beyond, speculation is running rampant around all aspects of the game we love.

Key Questions Linger as the NFL Draft Approaches

For starters, there seems to be some disagreement about who will have his name called when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers make their first pick. For months it has seemed certain the Jameis Winston would be the Bucs’ new franchise quarterback, but some whispers have indicated that perhaps the club will consider Marcus Mariota. One of these two quarterbacks will almost certainly be the pick but should the Bucs surprise the world by taking Mariota, the draft will be shaken up from the very beginning.

The San Diego Chargers might be headed for Los Angeles. While nothing is guaranteed at this time, everything seems to be lining up for the Bolts to make the move, possibly as soon as next year. These rumors have been swirling for quite a while, but things have take a new turn in the saga. It’s recently been reported that Philip Rivers isn’t crazy about the idea of leaving San Diego for L.A. and as a result, we’re hearing all sorts of wild scenarios about what the future might hold for the former NC State star.

There have been numerous trade scenarios making the rounds, some of which include the Chargers dealing Rivers to the Tennessee Titans in a package deal that would allow the Bolts to move up and acquire Mariota. More recently, there has been some speculation that Rivers would simply retire if the Chargers made the move. There really is no way of knowing what Rivers wants without talking to the man himself, but certainly this situation raises more questions for a franchise that is already surrounded by plenty of them. We won’t know if Rivers has any intention of retiring for quite a while, but we will have a pretty sound idea of whether the Chargers will look to trade him once draft day arrives.

Before anyone can consider what might happen in 2016, the events of this year have to unfold and next week we will be given a clue as to how that might happen. That’s right folks, the 2015 NFL schedule is about to be released. While we’ve known for some time which teams will be facing off next year, we will now now when and where those contests will occur. Who will the Patriots host on opening night in Foxborough? Which team will have the most prime-time games? Who will play on Thanksgiving Day? When will the Pats and Broncos face off (come on, you know you’re interested)? All of those questions will be answered in less than a week, an exciting tease for 2015 and a great way of tiding over your football appetite prior to draft day, to be sure.

It’s a pretty important period of the 2015 NFL league year. The combination of the 2015 schedule release and the draft will have people talking for some time to come. These are big steps toward Week One and the countdown clock is ticking. Rumors will continue to swirl and draft boards will continue to change up to the very last minute. We’re going to have answers to a lot of important question very very soon. Sit back and enjoy the show.
